Q: Do the rescues and foster homes listed herein accept animals from private parties?
A: No. You must turn in unwanted animals to your local shelter.
Q: Do you charge a fee for your services?
A: We do not charge a fee to feature an animal on our website. Most shelters and rescues charge a fee to an adopter. These fees range from $25 to $50.
Q: How do we get our animals listed on your website?
A: Email us with the basic information about the animal (look at the information we have on the currently listed animals) and a picture. Please notify us when the animal is no longer available so we can promptly remove them from the listing.
Q: Can you help us with questions on guinea pigs we already own?
A: Time permitting, yes. Email us.
Q: Can you help me find a friend for a guinea pig we already own?
A: Yes. In this case we'd recommend you go to a rescue or fosterer. The pigs will need to be tried in pairs with several other animals, in a quiet setting for up to an hour at a time.
Q: Can guinea pigs be spayed and neutered?
A: Yes. We recommend going to an experienced exotic vet as the surgery (especially a spaying) is more difficult than for larger animals.
Q: Are guinea pigs happier living individually or with other animals?
A: Guinea pigs are social animals. We believe that guinea pigs are happiest in groups. However, if you are willing to give plenty of attention to a single animal, it will still thrive. You should not break up pairs of bonded animals (they will become depressed when separated).
Q: How will a guinea pig do with other species of animals we have in our house?
A: It varies widely. Normally the guinea pig will not care, the issue would be if the other species would possibly harm the guinea pig.
Q: How can I help the homeless guinea pigs?
A: Obtain your guinea pig "used" from a shelter, rescue, or foster home. Volunteer to be a foster home or help out at the local shelter. Donate money or supplies to your local shelter. Have your guinea pigs spayed or neutered if there is any possibility of contact with the opposite sex.
